This practice uses natural therapies, including botanical medicine, clinical nutrition, hydrotherapy, homeopathy, naturopathic manipulation, traditional Chinese medicine / acupuncture, and lifestyle counseling. Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral Therapy involves the therapist placing their hands on the patient, which allows them to tune into the Craniosacral system. Gently working with the spine, the skull and its cranial sutures, diaphragms, and fascia, nerve passages, spinal cord and misaligned bones can be restored properly. Craniosacral therapy is used to treat mental stress, neck and back pain, migraines, TMJ Syndrome, and for chronic pain conditions such as fibromyalgia. |

Hot Stone Massage
There is no denying that hot stone massage feels amazing! However, you may be surprised at just how therapeutic they really are when used properly.
Promote Circulation - hot stones stimulate both lymphatic and vascular circulation, supplying fresh nutrients and oxygen to tense muscles and clearing toxins and debris from damaged tissues. Cold stones can help decrease inflammation, and promote decongestion of sinuses.
Relax Muscles and Stubborn Knots - hot stones help to soothe muscles and prepare them for a deeper massage while cutting down the length of time it takes to "warm" a muscle.
Stimulate "Rest and Digest'" nervous system - we've all heard of the "fight or flight" response of the nervous system in times of stress, but we seldom hear of the "rest and digest" mechanism of the body in times of relaxation. Massage and hot stones greatly encourage the body to switch gears into a more relaxed state.
What kind of stones do you use?
Basalt stones (volcanic lava stones) are the most commonly used stones due to their unique properties. Black basalt stones are used for hot stone therapy as they retain heat for much longer periods of time, making them ideal for massage. Conversely, white basalt stones are used for cold stone therapy as they retain cold. Stones smoothed naturally in river systems are thought to be more therapeutic than mechanically tumbled stones as they retain more of their natural energy. All of the stones used at King Liberty Health Center are naturally tumbled black and white basalt stones.
How do you use the stones? Does the treatment hurt?
Hot stones should never hurt! However, every practitioner has a different style, level of training and experience. Some practitioners use the stones as massage tools. Others simply use them as placement stones like heating pads to supplement the massage. I find the most effective and relaxing way to use hot stones is to combine the two methods to give you the best of both worlds. Combining traditional, Swedish massage with various hot stone techniques, I have developed unique treatments to suit the needs of each individual.
Are there any risks with hot stones?
When used properly, there are few risks associated with hot stones. As with any body treatment, there are times when hot stones may not be safe. If you have hypertension, heart conditions, diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer or are pregnant or on certain types of medications please consult your physician before booking a hot stone treatment. |
